Technical Architect/Presales Engineer

The role of the Senior Pre-Sales Engineer/Solution Architect is the technical design, architecture, qualification and presentation of focus product lines and solutions offered by IAS which include NetApp, HDS, Symantec, and SUN. Storage (SAN/NAS, Primary/Near-line) and data protection products (backup, clustering, and replication) are the primary focus of this position. Technical competence with Virtualization and LAN/WAN Network Optimization products will be a secondary focus of this position. The Senior Pre-Sales Engineer/Solution Architect will be required to work with customers to define their requirements, introduce specific technologies which meet those requirements, design, architect, and qualify proposed solutions, create Bill of Materials, create Visio infrastructure topologies, proposals, and statements of work specific to the solutions to be offered and then present/review them with the customer. The Senior Pre-Sales Engineer/Solution Architect must be able to research specific technology questions or topics and be comfortable with formal presentations or “chalk talks” of various technologies. The Senior Pre-Sales Engineer/Solution Architect may require stepping into a project management role as needed. The Senior Pre-Sales/Solution Architect must work along side the IAS Project Management Team who will set schedules and priorities. Ability to pursue and achieve professional certifications will be required. This position will be focused primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area; however, it may be necessary to travel to other IAS office or customer locations on an occasional basis. Some weekend and off hours work may be required.

Requirements Qualifications/Education

• At least 1 year of previous experience in a Pre-Sales/Solution Architect role with a Value Added Reseller (VAR) and/or a Technology Manufacturer in the Storage Industry
• At least 2 years technical experience with storage technologies (SAN and NAS) including design and architecture
• At least 2 years technical experience with NetApp technology design/architecture/support
• At least 2 years experience with backup technology design/architecture including one of the following: Symantec Netbackup, Symantec Backup Exec (v9 or higher), EMC Networker, Commvault Galaxy
• 2+ years system administration experience with one of the following: Unix (Solaris, HP-UX, or AIX), Linux, Windows
• Strong oral, written, and presentation skills are mandatory
• Use of Visio, and previous topology examples are mandatory
• Project Management skills
• Ability to manage time and multiple tasks without supervision
• Interpersonal skills and professionalism are critical
• Good troubleshooting techniques
• Ability to demonstrate good judgment and decision making
• 4 year college degree is preferred
• Ability to pursue and achieve professional certifications

• Post Sales Implementation Experience
• NetApp certification (Professional/Expert)
• Database knowledge and administrative experience (Oracle, MS-SQL)
• Experience in Tiered Storage Architecture and products
• Symantec experience/certification with Storage/Data Protection related Symantec Products (i.e. Storage Foundation/Netbackup/Backup Exec)
• Virtualization technology experience/certification (i.e. VmWare (VCP), Xen, Solaris 10 Containers/LDOM’s, Brocade Storage/X)
• Experience/certification with Sun technologies (Sun Enterprise, Workgroup, Solaris Core, SUN/STK Storage)
• 1+ years experience with network focused technologies (WAN Optimization and Load Balancing – F5, Citrix, Juniper, Cisco and Router/Switches – Cisco, Juniper)
• Windows certification
• Technical Project Management experience
