McDATA Corporation was founded in 1982. McDATA (Nasdaq: MCDT/MCDTA) is a global leader in open storage networking solutions and provides high performance enterprise directors and Storage Area Networks (SANs). The company manufactures and markets high-performance switching solutions - Fibre Channel for open systems environments and ESCON for IBM data centers.

With the introduction of its first high-availability Fibre Channel switch in September 1997, McDATA extended its reach to encompass open systems environments. In June 1998, McDATA announced the first high-availability Director for the open systems environment - the ED-5000 Enterprise Director. Most recently, McDATA announced the Galaxy-Class ED-6064 Director, which represents the fifth generation of McDATA's world-class backbone directors. The company has also introduced packaged solutions including Trusted Solutions Platform (TSP) and OpenReady. These offerings assist IT managers in implementing enterprise storage networks using Fibre Channel technology.

McDATA's enterprise-to-edge SAN solutions, together with its extensive professional services and educational offerings give McDATA the experience to rely on when deploying a SAN at any level of the enterprise.

Through its seat on the Board of Directors of the Fibre Channel Association (FCA) and leadership in the Interoperability Special Working Interest Group of the FCA, McDATA is also leading an effort by industry vendors to ensure interoperability among Fibre Channel products.

McDATA's development team has a strong history in systems-level technologies, including complex protocol integration; high-availability characteristics required by IT managers, with a focus on reliability, availability, serviceability (RAS), and manageability; data center operating environments; and test and quality assurance.
