Job description

The successful candidate will have an in-depth understanding of industry leading virtualization technologies from both a design and engineering perspective. The candidate will be able to demonstrate technical capabilities and solution offerings for virtualization in the Data Center, on the Desktop, and in the Cloud.

This individual will also play a key role in guiding other virtualization strategies including storage, network, and file. This individual will evangelize virtualization and hyper-visor technologies by working closely with the IAS Sales, Marketing, and Engineering/Professional Services Teams as a virtualization expert.

In addition to providing internal expertise and support to IAS teams, this individual will be heavily involved in the TECHNICAL design, and implementation of customized virtualization solutions for IAS customers, onsite customer virtualization assessments, and creation and delivery of virtualization ROI and solution benefits to the customer.

The Senior Virtualization Architect will work closely with the IAS Datacenter Virtualization Practice Manager to develop IAS virtualization solutions. The individual will work closely with the IAS Director of Professional Services to develop IAS professional services virtualization capabilities and offerings leveraging internal and 3rd party resources. This individual will work closely with the IAS Director of Engineering and Pre-Sales Architects to provide technical guidance, training, and virtualization expertise during onsite customer meetings and conference calls.

The Senior Virtualization Architect will work closely with IAS Sales Team to develop strategies and sales techniques to introduce and differentiate IAS virtualization capabilities and solutions. Ability to pursue and achieve professional certifications will be required.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Design, and implementation of customized technical virtualization solutions for IAS customers in the Data Center, on the Desktop, and in the Cloud
  • Develop complete virtualization solutions taking into account sizing, infrastructure, data protection, disaster recovery, and application requirements.
  • Provide onsite customer virtualization assessments
  • Creation and delivery of virtualization ROI and solution benefits proposals to customers
  • Assist with RFP responses
  • Creation of a bill of materials for solution specific virtualization product and service requirements
  • Provide knowledge transfer and training to customers and IAS technical resources
  • Provide virtualization focused demonstrations, evaluations and proof of concept support
  • Provide troubleshooting expertise for virtualization performance and other issues
  • Create run book and other supporting configuration documentation.
  • Work closely with the IAS Director of Professional Services to develop IAS professional services virtualization capabilities, offerings and SOWs, leveraging internal and 3rd party resources.
  • Take a leadership role in Virtualization Project Management as needed
  • Work closely with the IAS Director of Engineering and Pre-Sales Architects to provide technical guidance, training, and virtualization expertise during onsite customer meetings and conference calls.
  • Provide competitive analysis to customers and internal IAS resources on all server virtualization technologies and other compelling virtualization strategies.
  • Help develop complete virtualization solutions taking into account infrastructure, data protection, high availability, resource management, automation, disaster recovery, and application requirements.
  • Focus IAS virtualization resources on appropriate specializations including Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, Lab Automation, and Disaster Recovery
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with technology partners
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding and expertise for deployment of networking technologies in a virtualized environment and be able to present these concepts in conjunction with IAS Networking Specialists
  • Meet and maintain product/expertise individual certification requirements as defined by IAS and our associated partners
  • Perform needs analysis, information gathering on client expectations and technical baselines for writing or technical review of Statements of work.
  • Effectively communicate solutions architecture to the customer, third parties and the project teams by creating and delivering presentations and/or training.
  • Ensure that proposals are technically sound, deliverable, competitive and representative of market leadership in the application of technology to addressing business issues.
  • Ensures effective client engagement and stakeholder management during assignment (may include management of subcontractors and partners).
  • Perform consultation, implementation, documentation and knowledge transfer for billable engagements.
  • Provide technical reviews and reviews of both existing and potential manufacturers for their technical competency.
  • Develop strong partnerships with existing service provider partnerships.
  • Stay up to date on emerging technologies and products, including attaining certifications and participation in industry events as appropriate.
  • Bring new ideas and methodologies to improve the department.
    • Ideal candidates will have excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills and have the ability to write technically for pre-sales work and project documentation.

Job Requirements

  • 7+ years experience in overall IT (either systems or network engineering)
  • 5+ years experience managing Virtualization projects
  • 5+ years technical experience with VMWare (Design, migration and implementation)
  • 5+ years experience acting as a consultant (not a contractor) for clients, advising on technical solutions and participating in pre-sales and solution development.
  • Ability to grasp new technology concepts quickly and assist others in understanding them as well.
  • VMware current certifications, VCP on VI3/vSphere required,
  • Certifications on other Virtualization Technologies (Hyper-V, Xen) is a plus
  • Virtualization specialty certifications, Lab Manager, Site Recovery Manager, VDI (View), Life Cycle Automation, are a plus
  • 2+ years system administration hands on experience with one or more of the following: Unix (Solaris, HP-UX, or AIX), Linux, Windows
  • At least 2 years technical implementation experience with storage technologies (SAN, FCP/ISCSI and NAS)
  • At least 2 years technical experience implementing Network Appliance technology
  • At least 2 years experience implementing and designing backup technology solutions including one of the following: Symantec Netbackup, Symantec Backup Exec (v9 or higher), EMC Networker, Commvault Galaxy
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours as necessary to meet customer requirements
  • Ability to travel to various customer locations as necessary
  • Willingness to travel to Southern California and Pacific Northwest for sales and professional services engagements
  • Preferred Bachelors degree in Computer Science, MIS or a related field
