Virtualization

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"In computing, virtualization is "a technique for hiding the physical characteristics of computing resources from the way in which other systems, applications, or end users interact with those resources. This includes making a single physical resource (such as a server, an operating system, an application, or storage device) appear to function as multiple logical resources; or it can include making multiple physical resources (such as storage devices or servers) appear as a single logical resource."[1] This new Virtual view of the resources is not restricted by the implementation, geographic location or the physical configuration of underlying resources. Commonly virtualized resources include computing power and data storage.

Virtualization can be used for server consolidation, disaster recovery environments, testing and development environments, portability of applications and images."

We are experienced with these technologies and can provide our customers with recommendations on when these technologies should be leveraged, and the appropriate architectural infrastructure design to support them.

Server Virtualization technologies include VMware™ , Xen, and Solaris Containers.  We have VmWare Certified Professionals (VCP) on staff!

Storage Virtualization technologies include HDS's Universal Storage Platform™, StorageAge, EMC Invista™, IBM SVC™.

Global Name Spaces (GNS) facilitated by Microsoft DFS, Brocade Storage-X, Acopia, Neopath are also a new emerging form of virtualization.

Integrated Archive Systems is focused on virtualization as an emerging technology.  We are experienced with these technologies and can provide our customers with recommendations on when these technologies should be leveraged, and the appropriate architectural infrastructure design to support them.  The physical infrastructure and how to protect it must be considered when deploying a virtualized environment.  IAS can provide this level of expertise and can serve as a trusted advisor to our customers who are interested in exploring and deploying virtualization technologies.
